AND TO THINK THAT I SAW IT
ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB
The author hatches (or lays) an egg.

Children today,

When you've nothing to do,

You surf on the Web

And it's all that you do.

It's all that you do.

Click, click, click, click.

It can't be that healthy.

It could make you sick.

And what will you do,

I'd like you to tell,

If the power goes off

Or your on AOL?

Here's a suggestion

If that should occur.

Read a good book.

It's what they are fer.

Books are like Web sites

whose pages are printed.

They're free at the library

Not billed by the minute.

They come from a time,

If you'll believe this,

Before you were born,

When your parents were kids.

And though times were hard,

They weren't all that bad.

They had to read books.

They were all that they had!

Like Pokey Little Puppy,

A prince among hounds.

And Saggy Baggy Elephant,

Who should gain a few pounds.

If you're looking for one,

but can't seem to buy it.

You can probably get yours

At the Golden Books site.

And then in first grade,

Dick and Jane were assigned,

To teach us to read

And develop our minds.

Admittedly though,

There's something amiss

When people are talking

In words just like this:

"Run, Spot! Run!

See Spot run."

And this was somebody's

Idea of good fun?

Though hot in the fifties,

Later they bombed.

They're making a comeback.

They've just been dot commed.

And then we were saved

by a means quite obtuse

When Random House published

A doctor named Seuss

The Cat in the Hat,

Horton, the Who,

Yertle the Turtle

to name two times two.

If he'd have lived longer

And gotten the facts,

I'm sure we'd have heard

Of Net-surfing Zaks.

So if you're online

And need your Seuss fill.

Surf right on over

And visit Seussville

There are other pages

In the style that is Seuss's.

On the World Wide Web

It has multiple uses.

Take for instance,

An idea, quite frightening.

What if Seuss

Had done technical writing?

And stranger still

Would be the effect,

If the Doctor had written

The series Star Trek.

But before you go further,

You'd better log off.

Your eyes might go bad.

Your brain might go soft.

Besides, I've no doubt,

You're sure to find,

Dr. Seuss books

Are better offline.
